Sapphire gymnastics runs the party!

Taking a break from high pressure competitions that demand high scores to progress up to the next level, this weekend Sapphire Gymnastics took their young athletes down to the Wiltshire School of gymnastics for the Quatro Cup team and individual event. Unique to many other competitions, this event is all about having fun, giving the gymnasts a chance to showcase their talent and take a few more risks in their difficulty. With the judges all in 80’s disco fancy dress and the girls parading around homemade identification numbers on disco balls to the sound of ‘Hey Micky’ by Toni Basil, the atmosphere was electric inside the gymnasium. With over 600 gymnasts from all across Britain entered, the club took 20 gymnasts across the ages of 9 to 14 to represent them in their diamond covered blue leotards.

Starting early on the Friday morning was Phoebe Boyton, a level 2 aged 11 gymnast. Putting out a strong vaulting display, Phoebe now looks to the Hertfordshire team event later this month. In the Level 4 in age division Sadie McKenna, Zara Simpson, Simone Stoyanov, Phoebe Fletcher and Gracie Rae Kilby placed Gold in the team event with a huge combined score of 139.55. The same team will be also out at the Hertfordshire Team event hoping to replicate their success. The final round on Sunday saw Agnes Hinde, Maddison Dixon and Isobel Davies take to the floor. The girls competed fiercely and did all their coaches proud.

Saturday saw the turn of the level 6 and 5 gymnasts. Starting with the two youngest sapphire gymnasts, Alyssa Krausz and Emilie Turnock at level 6 age 8, the girls put out neat and tidy routines to place 8th and 27th respectively. Rose Johnson placed in a super impressive 4th overall out of 55 gymnasts on the level 5 age 11s. Placing in 6th position was Olivia Kilby, with huge beam and floor scores, Rose and Olivia stood out in the age 11 division. Matilda Price, aged 10 also level 5, put out a strong consistent performance.

Up first on Sunday, the final day of the quarto cup, was Charlotte Anderson Priddie. With a score of 11.05 on vault, Charlotte looked confident across all her performances. In the Level 4 aged 10 division the team of Alexa McDairmid, Leah Kennedy and Lilianne Jervis Allen took the team gold with a team score of 132.5. The girls had shaky start with two falls on the asymmetric bars but went on to build momentum through the three remaining apparatus to take the top spot. Our Final gymnasts to compete across the action packed weekend was Kenzie Brown in the Level 3 age 11 and Iona Waddle, Tegan Hodson Little and Nadia Nowakowska in the Level 4 ages 12 plus. The girls showed their character and determination with dynamic floor routines and powerful vaults.
