Hertfordshire Team Championships 2017

The Hertfordshire Team Championships, for most gymnasts is the last competitive event of the year, ending a run of up to 5 competitions over the last 8 weeks. The Sapphire gymnasts were competing in teams of four and the highest three scores from each apparatus were added up to an overall total making this competition a great way to end the year. Team selection was based on performance and consistency over the season.

The level 6 event was held in the morning and the team of Alyssa Krausz, Emilie Turnock, Maddison Dixon and Kristina Ball were placed just behind the medals in 4th. The girls showed strong floor routines and dynamic vaults, and will now look to the new year and the challenges it brings.

The next group were the Level 5 and 4 gymnasts both making up strong teams. Sapphire was represented in the level 5 divisions by Rose Johnson, Olivia Kilby, Agnes Hinde and Lauren Gawronski and the girls took the overall silver medals, coming in nail bitingly close to the top spot. The level 4 round saw the Sapphire team of Phoebe Fletcher, Sadie McKenna, Simone Stoyanov and Zara Simpson crowned champions. With a huge score of 133.5 the girls managed to take the trophy with 4 marks to spare. Sadie McKenna also took the highest individual score of the day and received a huge trophy too!

The third and final round of the day was for the level 3, 2 and FIG gymnasts. The level 3 was first and for Sapphire we had Kenzie Brown, Amy Price, Leah Kennedy and Lilianne Jervis Allen. After a shaky start with a few falls on their floor routines, the girls managed to calm their nerves and pushed forward to take the silver medal position. Our Level 2 gymnasts of Sasha Cherry, Phoebe Boyton and Tegan Hodson Little had a similar story to the level 3 gymnasts, with wobbly beam routines the girls also managed to pick themselves up on the other apparatus to also take the silver medals. For the FIG gymnasts the overall championship was in no doubt, with a season best for Ondine Achampong, and strong clinical routines from Alyieana Rahim, Lauren Matthews and Tilly Hedges. The girls took the top spot with 10 marks over the 2nd placed team. The fantastic display capped over another successful day for Sapphire School of Gymnastics.
