Hertfordshire Regional and club grades 2018

Sapphire school of Gymnastics field a strong representation every year at the Hertfordshire Regional and Club grading competition. Thirteen gymnasts were put forward this year, the expectation was to bring back an array of medals across the various grades.

Starting with Club Grade 6, the first grade when it comes to competitive gymnastics. Emilie Turnock, Agnes Hinde and Maddison Dixon in their sapphire blue leotards were first up. Emilie placed a respectable 6th place, Agnes was just ahead in 5th and Maddison took the overall bronze medal. With the girls averaging over 12.5 marks across the 5 judged apparatus, their strong consistency proved to be successful.

Having passed Club Grade 6 last year; Alyssa Krausz and Rose Johnson now faced the step up to club Grade 5. They built on the determination they show regularly in training as both girls took the overall top spot in their respective age groups. Rose scored an impressive 63.100 and Alyssa a huge total of 63.600, which was the highest Grade 5 total across all ages.

Moving onto the regional grades, Lauren Gawronski, Olivia Kilby, Iona Waddle and Kira Caple were all out to compete for the Regional Grade 4 title. Lauren who is 10 this year came in 6th place for her age. Olivia managed an amazing silver medal overall in her age group 11yrs / 12yrs, a truly fantastic achievement. In the oldest age group of 13 plus, Iona also placed 2nd with Kira just behind in 3rd. Kira only trains 4 hours a week at Sapphire which makes this a remarkable result that shows real character.

In Regional Grade 3, only two gymnasts wore the Sapphire colours. Neve Thompson and Nadia Nowakowska took to the floor with class and control to take the 4th spot for Neve and 2nd for Nadia. With strong competition from other clubs, the two girls stood out with their performances.

The final grade for the Sapphire girls was Regional Grade 2, finishing the day in style Eve Andrews was crowned the Grade 2 champion. Kenzie Brown was not far off and overall bronze medal.

All gymnasts that came away with an overall medal will now be looking to build on their success at the East Region finals.
